Top 20 Things to Do on Jeju Island


Jeju Island has been my home away from home for the last year or so.  And when the weather warms up around May, I am quite ready to see all that I can see as summer swings in.  Jeju is considered the "Hawaii" of Korea and with several UNESCO World Heritage Sites, I am continuously amazed by the serene and beautiful sites that make up Jeju Island.  It took some time figure out where everything was, so I thought, I'd put together a list of the top 20 things to do here on Jeju.


1. Yongmeori Coast

2.  3-D Art Museums

So much fun!  These 3-D Art Museum will have your friends wondering "How in the world did they do that?"

3.  Hello Kitty Island

I couldn't understand all the hype about the cartooned cat.  That was until my visit to Hello Kitty Island.  Freakishly adorable.

4.  Love Land

Intriguing...maybe.  Bizarre...absolutely.  With sculptures and exhibits that offer no inhibitions on most aspects of human sexuality and it's form, Love Land is something to see.  There's also a gift shop with all sorts of goodies.

5.  Aqua Planet

I loved this place so much, I perused the entire place twice on the same day.  The cost of admission is totally worth it if you ask me.

6.  Spirited Garden


Recognized as the most beautiful garden in the world, this is easily my favorite garden on Jeju Island.  The wood tales left by director, Bum Young Sun, will have you thinking about how knowledge is everywhere and how even the trees tell the tale.

7.  Yeomiji Botanical Garden

Located in the popular Jung-mun Resort area, this garden has a bit of every thing.

8.  Hallim Park

Like feeding birds and other wild life? Like the calmness of a walk in the woods or being with trees?  This place has all of that and more.  Go in the spring for the Cherry Blossom Festival... it's amazing!

9.  Mount Sanbangsan

There are at least three things to see/do at mount Sanbangsan.  There is a wonderful temple with with a ginormous statue of Buddha.  There's also a temple that's inside of a cave with a view overlooking Dragon's Head Shore.  The other thing, is is to head to Dragon's Head Shore to look at some pretty cool carvings that more and more amazing as you go.  Don't forget to stop in at Hamel's Ship.  :)

16.  Hike Hallasan Mountain

At 1950 meters, Hallasan is the tallest mountain in South Korea.  While more seasoned hikers might be able to hike it in about six to seven hours, I was pretty happy having hiked it in about 9 hours having stopped numerous times along the way and an extended lunch.

With several trails leading up to the top, choose wisely.  The fastest trail wont be the easiest.  On a clear day, the views from the top is amazing.  Be sure to collect your certificate of completion from the office to the right.

17.  Udo Island

Udo Island is a 20 minute ferry from Jeju Island.  Beaches are everywhere and the water just incredible.  Highlights of a trip to Udo, renting a bicycle, ATV or scooter and circling the island

18.  Nature and Folk Museum

19.  Yacheonsa Temple

The biggest temple on Jeju Island, Yacheonsa is amazing.  I've heard it's also possible to do a temple stay here at about 50,000 won per person.
